Shot PC vows to return to Lenton beat

PC Rachael Bown has vowed to return to the city beat she was working on before being shot.

The 23-year-old, who has recently been released from hospital after treatment for a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen, added that she planned to remain a police officer for the foreseeable future.

"The support I’ve had from colleagues and the force has been fantastic," she explained. "It’s unbelievable. I still can’t quite take it in. I’ve been receiving up to a hundred get-well cards every day."

Doctors say the probationary officer is doing well and that her condition has greatly improved. PC Bown added that she feels much better herself.

"I’ve got to take things slowly and get plenty of rest," she said, "but it will be nice to be with my family and friends. I’m also desperate to see my dog, Winston, I’ve really missed him."

This is the first time since the attack that PC Bown has spoken out. 24-year-old Trevon Thomas from Bilborough has been charged with her attempted murder.
