Wish you could combine nights of hedonistic pleasure with helping to save the world? Now thanks to Oxjam, you can. Oxjam is Nottingham’s equivalent to Live 8, but more intimate and without a Geldof in sight. Throughout October a whole host of bars and gig venues are putting on a fantastic range of music events in order to raise money for Oxfam. Loads of the best venues are getting involved, from hidden away bars with intriguing names like ‘The Lurking Hole’ to the bigger music mainstays like Rock City. There’s live dubstep and electro at Blueprint and free acoustic sessions at The Malt Cross, not to mention various special events at old favourites like Dogma, Snug and The Social.
Go to www.myspace.com/oxjamnottingham for the full Oxjam listings. There should be something to cater to most tastes and entry is never far off the £3 mark, so really you’ve got no excuse not to check it out. Unless of course you’re an evil person who hates music and charity. You don’t hate charity…. do you?
