Recent renovations show Scruffy’s moving away from the implication of its name, towards a funky and stylish image, reminiscent of a cosy log cabin. The innovatively decorated walls have been covered in orange paint and bold designs and the bar moved and extended to create more space. The layout of the restaurant is much the same as before and the wooden tables have been kept. The addition of large leather sofas into the bar area create a chic image to rival any bar in the Lace Market.
Despite the dramatic changes to Scruffy’s interior it retains many of the qualities which have always made it such an enjoyable place to be entertained. The atmosphere is welcoming and bubbly, predominantly due to the friendly nature of the restaurant staff, who deliver excellent service. The menu offers a wide range of simple, wholesome home-cooked meals, including Scruffy’s classics such as the ‘Scruffy Burger’ and the ‘junkyard dessert’. A personal recommendation is the sirloin steak smothered in a stilton sauce which is served in a generous portion and tastes delicious. One consideration to bear in mind is that the prices are quite high on a student budget, with the average price of a main meal being around £10.
Overall the combination of intriguing decoration, hospitable staff and delectable dishes make Scruffy’s the perfect restaurant for any occasion.
