Update: 13 Nottingham Students Diagnosed with Swine Flu

Impact has just learnt that 13 students so far at Nottingham have been diagnosed with Swine Flu. The Health Protection Agency contacted the university today and advised that it can remain open. All 13 students and their contacts are receiving antiviral medication.

Impact understands that members of the SU Executive have been given medication and told to go home following a training day.

University management released the following statement:

“The Health Protection Agency has assessed the situation and advised the University that it can continue to operate as normal. The University would like to reassure students that all appropriate public health actions have been taken and will continue to monitor the situation closely in collaboration with the HPA and the Primary Care Trust.”

The news comes as UK levels continue to rise as an alarming rate, yesterday around 200 more in the UK were confirmed to have the virus.

Impact will have more once this story develops.
