Welcome to Spring. Sunshine is offsetting exam time blues and though the last thing you feel like doing is eating something that requires time or effort, I tell you now, it will be worth it. Now is the month for rhubarb and asparagus, since asparagus plants take about 3 years to mature and harvesting season only lasts a tiny 6-8 weeks, take advantage of this hard-working shoot while it is plentiful.
For food ideas, think lamb chops sprinkled with brown sugar, grilled and served with a big green salad, followed by rhubarb crumble. Try strawberries, sunflower seeds, chopped dates and vanilla porridge for a sweet breakfast. Or go big and have a roast lamb shoulder, scored and stuffed with garlic and rosemary and served with buttered new potatoes. May is going to be delicious.

R. Kerry’s fruit stall on the Vic Centre Market is selling two punnets of strawberries for £1.30. If you’re dumb enough to buy the same amount for £4 at Sainsbury’s you don’t deserve to be eating them at all.
