Best of New York Fashion Week SS16

It is that time of year again – where all of fashion royalty gather together under one roof for one of the biggest events of the year. Kicking off the electrifying Spring/Summer 2016 season is New York Fashion Week. We present our top five highlights of this year’s New York SS16 runways!

Givenchy

Givenchy

Givenchy’s Artistic Director Ricardo Tisci presented his latest collection in the most unique manner, commemorating the losses from the tragic events of 9/11 – the backdrop of the runway show displayed New York City. The collection was a combination of delicate, seductive looks with lace detailing – beautifully sheer. Every outfit was extremely tailored and monochrome in either black or white. In-between there were carefully crafted masks drawing attention to the luxurious gowns.

alice + olivia
Alice + Olivia

A staple in eveningwear Alice + Olivia presented a new light in their latest collection, which was inspired by the faultless desert butterflies and the beauty of desert flowers. CEO & Creative Director Stacey Bendet wanted to display the goddess within with a boho spin. Refreshing as ever, the collection sported wide leg pantsuit gowns, introducing pants as one of spring’s must-have items. She also successfully created a few daytime dresses with a fairy-tale look in tantalising spring hues.

Zac Posen

Zac Posen

No one knows elegance like Zac Posen; he is arguably the king of the Red Carpet with almost every A-List celebrity sporting his classic designs. This season he breaks the mould by not presenting his usual figure – hugging silhouette, and creates a more blasé vibe – cool summer dresses were presented in an array of lengths ranging from mini to maxi. He used dramatic colours and a satin-look for most of his dresses, creating the perfect amount of shine on his garments.

Diane von Furstenberg

Diane von Furstenberg
New York Fashion week is incomplete without the legendary and classic Diane Von Furstenberg. Her latest collection is the definition of ultra feminine – drawing her ideas from Fortuna (Roman goddess of luck and justice) with a 1970s twist. Eye popping prints in vibrant colours stole the show, incorporating a mix of both extremes of dull and metallic fabrics, as well as extremely flared and tailored dresses. This collection is truly fit for the edgy girly girl, who loves her butterflies and animal prints.

Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang
Alexander Wang, also known as “fashion’s wonder kid” proudly presented his latest collection celebrating a fantastic ten years. His latest collection brings back a few elements of his previous collections, but still keeps his ideas fresh – using a rocker and army laid-back feel. The night was filled with entertainment starting off his show with pole dancers entertaining the crowds, and a fabulous performance from R&B stars: Tinashe, Lil Wayne, and Ludacris. Wang paid homage to his past ten years as a successful designer by showing a video of his decade in the fashion industry.
