Two of our Impact Style contributors, Ike and Chanel, offer styling tips for a range of staple pieces that are essential for University, in preparation for Spring/Summer.
We understand how easy it is to develop a habit of choosing boring outfits for Uni. If you feel like shaking up your look – we have the solution. Dressing up basic pieces is a great way to add excitement to any look. Two of our contributors decided to join forces and demonstrate how they style basic items in different ways.
THE CHUNKY JUMPER
Ike: It’s been so cold this winter, wearing a knit jumper is one of my favourite ways to keep warm. I especially love wearing my jumpers with a denim shirt underneath not only does it add an extra layer but it also gives the look at certain cute quirky element to the outfit.
Chanel: During the winter months I tend to opt for darker colours, especially black. However I try my best to incorporate brighter colours into my outfits so that I don´t look like I’m going to a funeral on a daily basis. A light coloured chunky jumper is the perfect way to look refreshed and stylish and stay warm at the same time. I styled this high neck jumper in a mint colour with a satin bomber jacket to add an edgy vibe to the outfit.
THE OVERSIZED COAT
Chanel: My philosophy with winter coats is.. the bigger the better! Oversized coats can work as a great statement piece during the winter months. They keep you warm and can easily give any plain outfit an instant edge. I styled this oversized wooly coat with a plain black outfit for a simple chic look.
Ike: In my opinion the best thing about winter, is wearing big coats! I love how cosy they feel and how chic they can look. This coat is made a beautiful wool mix to give it an almost grey colour, but in order to add a little excitement to the look I added this yellow and orange scarf to give a little pop of colour.
THE OVERSIZED SHIRT
Ike: I believe a button up shirt is such a good way to dress up an everyday outfit and when I saw this funky print I couldn’t leave in the shop. I styled it with skater skirt to add a little girliness to the look, and I absolutely love wearing this chunky necklace with the shirt I feel like it makes the print pop.
Chanel: Denim shirts have certainly come back in style in the past five years or so and have become a basic item in many of our wardrobes. However they have become so basic that people tend to forget how stylish a denim shirt can be! I styled this oversized denim shirt with simple black jeans, heeled boots and a felt hat. I think that the heeled boots and hat compliment the denim shirt and makes the whole outfit look smart casual. Perfect for a night at the movies or if your in a sassy mood before you go to uni.
THE RIPPED JEANS
Ike: wearing ripped jeans is such a great way to make jeans more exciting, from a simple rip at the knee to completely distressed. I chose these baggy mom jeans I love these because they give me an poetic justice 90’s style, I topped it off with the crop top and chain to give it a badass feel.
Chanel: Ripped jeans have obviously come back in style in the recent years. However, wearing ripped jeans can look overly casual sometimes. I styled these boyfriend ripped jeans with some heeled boots to show how they can be dressed up easily. The satin bomber adds the finishing touch to the outfit and brings it together nicely.
