Winner Announced: International Officer – Denis Lelin

Denis Lelin has been elected as your new Students’ Union International Officer for 2019/2020.

Denis was declared International Officer for the 2019/2020 academic year after winning in the fourth round with 296 votes.

Denis said he was just finally feeling calm. When the results were announced he was very excited “crying and screaming” since it was such a close vote.

For him, the highlights of the campaign were having support from so many people (campaign team, housemates, dance society and other candidates), and campaigning at Med School, where everyone was ‘very approachable and interested in his ideas’.

Denis describes the whole campaign process as ‘very rewarding’, even if coping with everything (from his degree, to dance, and preparing for welcome) was quite a challenge. He’s grateful for all the support him and his ideas got.

In terms of celebration, he’ll go for a quick dip in Ocean but ‘no drinking or splits because he has a dance competition tomorrow’.

The manifesto point he is most looking forward to implementing is ‘providing targeted support for international students because it is extremely difficult to come to another country and fit in’.
