Trailer Watch – Ted 2

Awarding a sequel to the highest-grossing original R-rated film in American cinema history is pretty much a given, though 2012’s Ted still certainly surprised many with its success considering the concept of an alive and conscious teddy bear talking trash. Now, Ted subsequently returns for a second outing, with this sequel appearing to focus more on the fluffy star (voiced by Seth MacFarlane, also returning to write/direct) and his new life with Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth) rather than John (Mark Wahlberg).

Ted wants to have a child with Tami-Lynn, but will need help from John in order to make this happen, prompting excessive bodily fluids to flood a scene not too dissimilar to one from MacFarlane’s Family Guy. For Ted to have a child however, he’s going to need to prove that he’s a real person in a court of law; cue Amanda Seyfried’s character, lawyer Sam L. Jackson, with plenty of jokes around her name sure to follow in the film.

Mila Kunis is nowhere to be seen in the trailer, yet is still said to feature at some point. Rounding off the cast are Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Richard Schiff, Patrick Warburton and John Slattery among others.

As expected, much of the humour in the trailer is generated by unnecessary fights, stereotypical jokes, and over-the-top language, showing little change from MacFarlane’s day job in comedic television. For fans of this style, the film will be essential viewing. For everyone else, this sequel will probably be easily avoided.

Ted 2 will be released in the UK on July 10th of this year.
