Trailer Watch – Crimson Peak

Guillermo del Toro returns to the horror genre with what is being called his ‘masterpiece’, Crimson Peak. Following a family tragedy, Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska), is torn between a childhood friend (Charlie Hunnam) and a mysterious stranger (Tom Hiddleston). Trying to escape, Edith retreats to Crimson Peak, the home that appears to belong to Hiddleston and his enigmatic sister Lady Lucille Sharpe (Jessica Chastain).

If this stellar cast is not exciting enough, then this first look is certainly intriguing. Without relying on the usual jump scare compilation that many horror trailers consist of, this trailer presents a genuinely unsettling atmosphere. Crimson Peak appears to be a character unto itself. Upon each eery shot of the house, a very subtle red filter is mildly visible, contributing in creating an atmosphere unique to the house and its character. Creating a place of fear and then taking the audience there is fundamental to creating an unsettling location.

Find out if del Toro can deliver the horror experience that fans of the genre have been craving when the film is released on October 16th.
