US? Canada? International students seeking alternatives to UK universities

International students are reportedly looking for universities in other English-speaking countries as a substitute for the UK after Brexit.

Britain’s decision to leave the EU has caused a wave of uncertainty for foreign students. This has led many to look at universities in the US, Canada, and Australia as alternatives to the UK.

A study from Hobsons, a student recruitment consultancy, found that 30% of international students said that they were not likely to go to the UK as a result of the EU referendum.

“This University is particularly advanced for their time by keeping an open door and open mindset to international students”

6% said that they would “definitely not” study in Britain after the result.

The University of Nottingham’s (UoN) student population report from 2015/16, shows that the University is composed of 27% international students.

The report goes on to reveal that there are 9,091 registered EU and international students at the UoN.

“30% of international students said that they were not likely to go to the UK as a result of the EU referendum”

Since the referendum results were revealed, the UoN has expressed their commitment to remain a “truly global university”.

Loren Querickiol, one of the SU International Officers and an international student, told Impact: “While I understand the difficulties Brexit may pose on future and current international students, I am so glad to have chosen Nottingham. This University is particularly advanced for their time by keeping an open door and open mindset to international students.”
