One of the more intriguing shorts exhibited at Mayhem last year was Rellik, only recently available to watch online but more than worth the five minutes of your time.
Taking cues from the opening minutes of Chris Nolan’s Memento, Rellik expands that reversed-chronology conceit into darker and more contemplative territory, hinting at notions of revenge and playing with your empathy right till the uncomfortable final seconds.
Comprised of three characters and two locations, the short works akin to Noé’s Irreversible, showing the unavoidable consequences of brutal violence by providing us with the reaction before the action, as well as playing with our notions of guilt and proportional response.
