Holding up the philosophy that Christmas music should not only be festive, but diverse, Impact has compiled a list of 25 ‘Christmas songs’ to take you through advent. Including not only songs which are indisputably part of the Christmas canon, but also straying into areas of music which holds looser links to the season. Starting with the tenuous and heading for the recognised classics, look no further for your advent soundtrack.
We’ve all tried to do it. We’ve all tried to stay up all night on Christmas Eve, hoping that we would see Santa Claus filling our stockings with presents. The story of this song is no different, with Akim spotting Santa Claus, who happens to look a lot like her dad (Teddy Vann), by the Christmas tree.
‘Santa Claus is a Black Man’ is a fun song, sung by an innocent child, yet it is also politically significant. When released in 1973, African American children were largely excluded from Christmas imagery. This song helped to change this, due to anyone and everyone being able to relate to this song.
