Fresher’s Memoirs – Day 4: Induction Contradictions

Day 4 of our fresher's memoirs - this time, a poetic treat from Isobel depicting the change from one university to another as she now undertakes her masters.

A new year, a new start.
I’ve been here before / It’s all new to me.
Just the same old / A strange, different
timetable, campus, ID, IT.

Last year seems suddenly so far away
as I walk into this new term, so
Similar / Different
compared to last time.

Familiar / Alien
in every way. It feels like I’m
stepping into
Another world / A memory.

My mind is full of contradictions.
But then that’s what you get
For choosing a new university
For your Master’s degree.
