What do I wear now? All the essentials you need to dress for mid-temperature weather.

You wake up. It’s a chilly autumn morning, you put on your wooliest hat and gloves and your warmest winter coat, only to walk to university or work and arrive  sweating in 20-degree heat and infuriated at your earlier fashion choices. October so far has seen that typical confusing British weather, sunny, warm spells, rain showers and now, chilling temperatures. So what are we supposed to be wearing in this in-between weather?

Trench Coats

Trench coats are an essential for this hard-to-navigate weather. Trench coats belong to no season and are perfect for tying your outfit together into a simple yet smart and classy look. Their lightweight nature means they are ideal for layering over knitted jumpers without overbearing you completely on your hot girl walk. Trench coats are a cool staple that are the most needed for keeping your temperature neutral.

With double denim, Autumn has never looked so good.

 Blazers

Carrying on with class, blazers are an essential item of clothing to optimise comfort and style in this hot and cold weather.  Blazers can fit under your coat, or even be your coat. They are essentials that fit any weather. Pair with a hoodie for a more casual look, or a mini skirt and boots that will give you that sophisticated vibe.

Double denim

Denim never goes out of style, and double denim, in my opinion, should always be in season. Denim provides the perfect amount of protection against those mid-temperature chills but leaves you without the need for any additional layers – simple. Style double denim with a basic white tee underneath and boots to complete the look. With double denim, Autumn has never looked so good.

Midi and maxi skirts

Midi and maxi skirts have become all the rage over the course of 2023 and are the perfect clothing item to reach for when the weather decides to exceed 20 degrees in the midst of Autumn. They keep the goosebumps afar and provide that chic, non-restrictive style. Denim, Cargo or cord, these skirts come in a multitude of styles and can be styled with any shoe. Style with your favourite black boots, trainers or UGGs and any top of your choice, mid and maxi skirts pave the way for endless mix-and-matching opportunities when the weather just won’t quit.

So long to the days of overheating…

Scarves

Even on those mid-temp days, sometimes a jacket is still just too much. Nothing is worse than having to carry a jacket around all day wishing you had just left it at home. That is why a scarf is the perfect wrap-around. Partnered with a long-sleeved top, joggers or wide-leg jeans, a scarf is that extra dose of protection and cosiness without increasing your body temperature to those sweaty levels.

Gilet

A coat without sleeves doesn’t sound the most practical. However, the gilet is actually next up on functional, yet stylish items of clothing that work wonders during the transitional seasons. Gilets have made their way into popular style, with big name retailers such as Urban Outfitters, Bershka and Asos pushing them into the mainstream. Gilets are great bodywarmers and can be worn over hoodies, knits, and your basic jerseys. A practical staple for everyday errands without the baggage of a big winter coat.

Practicality was built upon layers. Once the art of layering has been mastered, the unknown nature of our British Weather can no longer pose a threat to your fashion choices. So long to the days of overheating, or being too exposed, these Autumn staples are guaranteed to get you through the transitional seasons in style.
