A common consensus for Game of Thrones is that it’s simply a show containing sex and violence, which, often times, it is. Yet, the incredible depth of story interwoven between these features is what has hooked fans since its opening season, with regicide, trials by combat, and dragons all being part of the ever-expanding show.
Now expanding into its fifth season, this highly-anticipated trailer offers us fleeting glimpses of new characters, such as the Sand Snakes, and new locations, Dorne and Bravos, as the citizens of Westeros come to terms with the events of season four. A haunting cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes” is played throughout as we see a disheveled-looking Tyrion (the excellent Peter Dinklage) emerge from a crate and Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) promise to “break the wheel” as we see the Harpy in Meereen being pulled to the ground.
Based off both the fourth and fifth books in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, as a result of them running in parallel, this season looks to offer new twists and turns that again will leave shocked faces across the television world, as has become expected from the series. However, never expect your expectations to be met from start to finish.
Game of Thrones’ fifth season will premiere on April 13th this year.
