Loud house parties and noisy students are a cause of concern for local Lenton residents, with a number of complaints rising significantly since the start of term.
An advantage of having a house and being university students are the house parties. However, this has caused problems for local residents who have been frequently disturbed by the loud noises.
As a result, residents have contacted either the police or Nottingham City Council.
An example of alarming behaviour occurred at a party at Harlaxton Drive earlier this month. During the gathering a whole brick wall collapsed, which subsequently caused residents to become angry and frustrated.
“We did warn the neighbours [about the paty] but luckily they were students”
Daisy Pettit, a second-year student from the University of Nottingham, recently threw a house party. She told Impact: “We did warn the neighbours [about the party] but luckily they were students so [they] didn’t mind at all.”
She went on to say that “nobody complained about the noise” and they “made sure the back and front door stayed shut to keep the sound in.”
Impact also asked Daisy whether she knew of any other house parties that have been closed due to noise complaints. She said that every single house party that she has gone to have been “closed down due to noise complaints.”
“penalties include being evicted for up to three months or receiving a civil injunction”
Authorities have reportedly sent letters to 1,400 homes in the Lenton area telling students to be more considerate of their neighbours.
The Weekend Post reported that “partying students [are] wrecking marriages” and that students planning on having large-scale house parties could face “tough penalties.”
These penalties include being evicted for up to three months or receiving a civil injunction.
