For those wanting a quick and delish’ meal with friends, that’s not going to come with a side order of guilt, is the ‘Flaming Grill’ pub, The Rose and Crown. Situated just down from the north entrance of UoN, in Lenton, this pub serves so many of our Friday night favourites: a range of yummy cheeseburgers, steaks and mixed grills, as well as light salads and wraps for those sticking to their new year’s resolutions! Grab a great deal with many meals under a fiver.
The Ugly Bread Bakery, in Hockley, is a relatively new store to arrive to the city centre, and is a funky twist on a simple bread bakery, with their speciality sour dough pizzas starting from just £2.45! With a handy seating area upstairs, get yourself a tasty treat for lunch with free coffee when you spend £5 ! However, if you were in trawling around town searching for that cheap cheesy snack, the bakery may pinch a few too many pennies, with their smaller bread based snacks around £3.50 and above. The bakery does offer deals to entice your interest, such as ‘2-4-1’ on their special 12” sour dough pizzas… unfortunately this offer only applies on Tuesdays and Thursdays 5pm until 7pm – but if you can remember and your bus isn’t late you may just benefit from it!
If none of these tickle your fancy, how about taking a walk further down Hockley, to the independent Hartley’s coffee and sandwich bar. Easy to spot with its resident plastic cow outside, now thoughtfully placed in a pink rain coat, this quaint café serves great quality snacks for those heavy head mornings, as well as super berry smoothies for a shopping stop! Serving big breakfasts for under a fiver, breakfast butties for a few pounds, toasties and fresh sandwiches, it’s worth choosing Hartley’s to spend your spare change! With its friendly staff and prime people-watching location, it’s the perfect pit-stop lunch location for a pitiful purse!
