This week in Style…
1) Katy Perry magnificent in Moschino at Super Bowl half-time show
Katy Perry made her Super Bowl debut with a major bang- and not just with the spectacular fireworks that ran throughout her set. The pop princess sported no fewer than four stage outfits designed exclusively for her by Moschino’s Jeremy Scott, each perfectly pitched to co-ordinate with her transition from song to song. Katy dazzled in three-dimensional flames for ‘Roar’, a nostalgic-fantastic ‘beachball-inspired’ sundress for ‘California Gurls’, a very bling-bling crystal-embellished hoodie to duet with Missy Elliott, and, as a truly fabulous finale, a stunning star-studded silver lamé gown described as ‘Old Hollywood mixed with sci-fi’… all in all, a fantastical fashion extravaganza that without a doubt stole the show from the football.
2) Viktor & Rolf pull ready-to-wear line
Dutch design duo Victor & Rolf have followed the lead of Jean Paul Gaultier, announcing that they will be discontinuing their ready-to-wear line after A/W 2015, to focus more on their couture and fragrance ranges. Majority shareholder Renzo Rosso called the move, ‘a strategic decision to Viktor & Rolf brand in the highest luxury segment of fashion.’ The pair are best-known for their spectacular statement shows, with their S/S 2015 haute couture offerings (shown last week in Paris) starring enormous straw headdresses and 3D floral adornments that stretched the width of the runway. Viktor and Rolf told Women’s Wear Daily that they had ‘started to feel creatively restricted’ by the grueling ready-to-wear schedule, and that ‘by letting go of it, we gain more time and freedom.’
3) Hailey Baldwin unveiled as new face of Topshop
She’s a young star on the rise and now, 18 year-old Hailey Baldwin (niece, rather than daughter, of Alec) has ousted Cara as face of Topshop SS15, fronting the denim range in what is surely a major moment for any fledgling model. Hailey- a friend of Justin Bieber and Kendall Jenner- stuns in looks including a Seventies-inspired combo of double denim and suede clogs, boyfriend jeans and everybody’s favourite Jonis. Signed to Ford Models in NYC and Storm in London, it seems this is far from the last we’ll be seeing of this budding it-girl; fashion clearly runs in her jeans!
4) Claudia Schiffer teams with TSE for new capsule collaboration
Supermodel Claudia Schiffer has signed on to create a two-season capsule collection for TSE, featuring knit dresses, cardigans, sweaters, pants and capes. The range will debut this autumn, and is said to be inspired by the traditions and colours of both Schiffer’s countryside home in Suffolk and her German heritage (she was born and raised in the rural Rhineland), as well as Seventies snaps taken by artist and photographer David Hockney. Longtime knitwear connoisseur Schiffer, who previously launched an eponymous cashmere line stocked on Net-A-Porter, has utilized hand-knit techniques such as intarsia and Aran, saying she would like to create an effortless, wearable range to be easily incorporated into a ‘customer’s current wardrobe.’
5) Kardashian clan set to take Toppers?
Every week seems to see a new rumour concerning the Kardashian clan, but the latest might bring teen icons Kendall and Kylie a little closer to home. Hollywood is currently abuzz with reports that the Jenner sisters are in talks to follow the likes of Kate Moss, Queen Bey and Kate Bosworth in designing their own clothing line for good old Topshop. Love or hate the idea, with Kendall currently boasting 18.7 million Instagram followers, there’s no denying the range would fly off the shelves given the pair’s sizable fanbase. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but brace yourselves for crop tops, denim and leather leggings galore, and remember… you heard it here first!
