Healthy Hints for Staying Fit in Freshers

While you get caught up in the late nights and early mornings, it may seem impossible to fit in breakfast, water and some good old fruit and veg. We’ve come up with a meal for breakfast, tea and pudding for when you need simple, quick and healthy food. So here’s some tasty tricks to keep your immune system fighting off that looming freshers flu.

Blend ‘N’ Go

For those snooze alarm mornings, when there’s no time for breakfast, there’s an easy way to put all those vitamins back in your body with a healthy and tasty smoothie – a uni life saver!

You’ll Need

5 kale leaves

1 chopped apple

1/2 lemon

2 sliced celery stalks

2 ice cubes

Blend all together until smooth texture, and tip into a takeaway mug!

Cut-the-Carbs Burger and Fries

A favorite feast with a few easy, healthy twists and way tastier than a takeaway!

You’ll Need

Thick slices of large tomato

250g lean minced beef

1 small chopped onion

Mixed herbs

2 large sweet potatoes

1 egg

Mix together the minced beef, onions, herbs and egg (for binding) and squeeze them into burger shapes. Cut the sweet potatoes into wedges, cover in oil, mixed herbs, slat and pepper and then place in the oven on 180 degrees. Grill the burgers under the same temperature. Once cooked, use the tomato’s as a bun on the top and bottom of the burgers, and add sauces/salad/onion etc of your choice. Place with wedges and voila!

Easy-Peasy Ice-Creamy

For an indulgent and hangover curing pudding, it doesn’t come much better than this, and whats best is; its almost completely fat-free!

You’ll Need

2 cups frozen mixed berries

1 scoop low fat Greek yogurt

Blend together until thick and smooth, then place in a freeze-safe bowl and freeze overnight.

Just a few little meal ideas to for quick, simple, and tasty alternatives for when the freshers frenzy hits. However, don’t forget to get enough sleep and take water with you wherever you go – the little things can go a long way to keep your body and mind as ready as it can be for the year ahead!
