Here it is: the trailer which made more people watch American Football than any other.
This new trailer for the cinematic event of 2015 doesn’t feature too many new plot ideas, instead focusing on characterisation, a nice change from the usual spoon-feeding of the plot seen in most trailers recently. During the first minute, the trailer practically runs character profiles; we see the franchise’s new lead protagonists Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Finn (John Boyega), both on the desert planet of Jakku.
Over on the other side, representing the new face of the dark side of the force is Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). He appears to have acquired the melted helmet of Darth Vader, and declares he will finish what Vader started. As before, there is not too much about the overall plot but more of a focus on the character’s aims, leaving a lot to still be seen.
For the second half of the trailer, there are the usual, expected shots. Explosion heavy clips of X-Wings, TIE Fighters, and the Millennium Falcon fighting each other. The only spoilery clip is one of Finn wielding a blue lightsabre, that is very reminiscent of Luke Skywalker’s (who is still missing from any of the trailers or promotional material), against Kylo Ren in the only lightsabre duel we have been shown so far.
Get ready to return to that galaxy far, far away when The Force Awakens on December 17th
