University of Nottingham maintain third position in BUCS rankings

The University of Nottingham have impressively maintained third spot in the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sports) rankings; accumulating a total of 2075 points and winning 55 per cent of matches on BUCS Wednesday this week.

It was 41/74 wins for Lauren Heria’s teams with yet another fantastic set of results for Green and Gold across the board, as the successful start to the season continued.

The University of Nottingham were flying high at the top earlier in the 2016/17 campaign but they were knocked off their perch by Durham on the third week of BUCS matches. It will be a tough ask for UoN to claw its way back with East Midlands rivals Loughborough building a commanding lead at the top.

That said, first position is by no means out of reach considering the scintillating form and fantastic results that all of our university sports teams have displayed so far this season.

This winning mentality was demonstrated by all our clubs yet again this week. Table tennis won all of their Wednesday matches, including a 15-2 victory for the Men’s Firsts at home to Trent. All sides conceded just 8 points across 7 games this week and have accumulated a whopping 242 BUCS points so far.

Elsewhere it was 6/8 wins for squash including a 5-0 triumph over Loughborough for our Men’s Seconds. There were also 3-1 victories against Birmingham and De Montfort for our Women’s Second and Third teams at the David Ross Sports Village.

Hockey also came out on top in three quarters of their BUCS Wednesday clashes; the Mens Fifth team defied the odds to overcome Leicester’s Second team 4-1.

Meanwhile it was the same 75% win rate in Rugby Union, the highlight coming in the Women’s Firsts’ encounter with Loughborough Seconds, as the Green and Gold beat our local rivals 49-10 on their own patch.

It was two defeats, two draws and two wins for our Lacrosse teams this week, while our Mens First and Second Tennis teams defeated Edinburgh and Leicester 10-0 and 10-2 respectively at the Nottingham Tennis Centre.

There were 3-1 triumphs versus Staffordshire and Wolverhampton for our Men’s Seconds and Women’s Firsts in football. In Badminton our teams won 4/7 matches including huge victories against Warwick, Oxford, Edinburgh and Derby at the DRSV.

Our Rugby League team were also victorious in a monumental 92-0 win away versus Oxford seconds, and wins for Basketball included triumphs over Worcester and Birmingham for our Men’s Firsts and Seconds.

Its been another highly impressive week for the University of Nottingham’s sports teams. All UoN clubs need to maintain the brilliant standard set so far this season, in order to cement that top four place, and to push Durham and Loughborough in those first and second positions in the BUCS rankings.
