Sarah Pickup has been announced as the new Equal Opportunities and Welfare Officer.
8058 students voted for this position. After five rounds of voting, Sarah received 2730 votes, beating Kelly Clarke who received 2067 votes in the last round.
She told Impact, “I can’t believe it, I am so overwhelmed”.
“It was tight from the start, so I tried not to get my hopes up. The other candidates were all amazing”.
Sarah said that campaigning was really tiring, but lots of fun. “It was basically 12 hour days on campus”, she added. Sarah credited her fellow candidates, who she said “were so supportive”.
Her message for the students who voted for her was simply, “thank you, I am so appreciative that students trust me to do this”.
Chloe Averill, Equal Opportunities and Welfare Officer for 2014-15 told Impact, “I think she’ll be an amazing officer. She’s already done some fantastic work in Club Outreach”.
