With the beginning of Autumn semester fast approaching, I should be getting into the academic swing and preparing for my final year. Instead, I find myself lusting over this season’s newest trends as my ASOS wishlist stands at 131 items and counting. Regardless of my guilt, now the heatwave is over and September has dawned, it is time to look forward to the coats, layers and patterns which will flood our campus and town centre in the coming months.
Spoiler: these trends are not for the minimalists.
The London Fashion Week Festival has unveiled their top three hot looks for AW18, which will be paraded along the catwalk on 20-23rd September. These looks have already filtered through to my personal holy trinity of high street brands – ASOS, Topshop and ZARA.
1. Prim and proper
This look takes inspiration from ‘80’s proms and 90’s cocktail parties’.

Maybe a better fit for Christmas formals than an Ocean Friday, but nonetheless this retro trend brings some old school glamour back to formal wear.
2. Check mate
Checks are back, and the inner Cher Horowitz in me is delighted.

One scroll down ASOS’ New In tab and your eyes go dizzy with the sight of check. Whether bold and clashing or more understated, they are bound to take over campus, especially when paired with a student favourite: the puffa jacket.
3. Prints Charming
I am sure this summer you will have seen the influx of animal, floral and colourful prints on your Insta feed. Well ladies and gents, they are here to stay.

As a leopard print lover myself, I could not be more thrilled. But if animal prints are not your thing then the new season prints offer numerous alternatives and it seems the brighter the better!
Aside from these LFW trends, I have noticed a fourth – the suit.
4. The suit
Styled effortlessly by Blake Lively to promote her new film A Simple Favour, high street stores have tapped into this look. Lively takes it to a new level with bold prints and colours – she is truly a goddess.

I for one am excited to see these new trends in action and to be envious of everyone’s style on campus or out in town. May we brighten up the dull autumn days with these new trends.
