I consider Christmas to truly be the “most wonderful time of the year”, and Christmas music is one of the largest contributing factors to this belief. Once the fireworks have quietened down and Bonfire Night is over, my Spotify Christmas playlist is turned on full volume ready to welcome in the festivities. Here are a few of my much-loved Christmas tunes to see you through to the big day.
‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’
No Christmas party would be complete without this festive pop classic. Currently number 1 in the UK charts, there’s no escaping Mariah Carey’s waiting under the mistletoe. Kick off your celebrations the right way.
Elf soundtrack
As well as being my favourite Christmas film, Elf has a fabulous soundtrack, featuring the voices of Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Brenda Lee to name just a few. Relive the magic of the film by pretending you’re running around New York stealing chewing gum off the street and getting hit by cabs.
Christmas (Deluxe Special Edition)
By the King of Christmas himself, Mr Bublé. I couldn’t decide on just one song of his, so why not listen to the whole album on repeat until the 25th? Ensure your Christmas is deluxe and extra special with Bublé’s jolly version of a multitude of Christmas tunes, including ‘Jingle Bells’, ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ and ‘Frosty The Snowman’. It’s snow joke how good it is.
‘Jingle Bell Rock’
Are you ready to jingle your bells? Channel your inner Mean Girl by putting on a Mrs Claus dress and shaking some tinsel to this one. So fetch.
‘Last Christmas’
Overplayed? Slightly. Outdated? Never! An 80’s masterpiece, enjoy George Michael’s brooding, emotive melody as you recall all Christmas baes past.
‘Step Into Christmas’
Although I’m still very disappointed by the John Lewis Christmas advert, this song is a reminder that Elton John has got one festive endeavour right. He summarises in one simple sentence the epitome of what Christmas is about, just “eat, drink and be merry”.
‘Mistletoe’
I am not scared to admit that this song is a little bit of a banger, so forgive me all Justin Bieber haters. Looking for a Christmas romance? Grab your “shawty” and serenade him/her with Bieber’s smooth lyrics for guaranteed success.
Frozen soundtrack
When faced with the doom of upcoming deadlines and exam stress, remember to simply ‘Let It Go’. Even though this film and its soundtrack are not strictly reserved for Christmas, the winter wonderland-esque appearance of Arendelle is more than enough to spark that festive feeling.
‘What Christmas Means To Me’
A HIGHLY underrated Stevie Wonder banger, if this song doesn’t make you want to get up and dance around your Christmas tree I don’t know what will.
‘Santa Claus Is Coming To Town’
In my opinion there’s only one version of this song worth listening to and its by the Gods of Soul, The Jackson 5. Let’s just hope you’re on Santa’s nice list this year.
