Can the Green and Gold win Varsity for the eighth consecutive year?

That’s right, UoN have won the coveted series for the past seven years. Can we do it once again?

This year’s Varsity kicks off with Super Wednesday at the Lee Westwood Sports Centre on 20th March. Since the inception of the ‘Super’ events in 2016, we have won every single one, home and away. So what will this year’s instalment on Trent’s turf hold?

This first event of the series will see many teams come together for a thrilling day of sport. From trampolining to archery and ultimate frisbee to wheelchair basketball, it’s a great event to show your support for the Green and Gold and see if we can uphold our impressive record.

The Lee Westwood Sports Centre will see the current top of the BUCS table men’s and women’s tennis 1sts take on our Trent rivals. However, like a derby, form goes out the window for Varsity and it is down to who can hold their own on the day.

It will also showcase our ever growing volleyball team, who are hoping to show their worth as the University is currently investing in brand new beach volleyball courts based upon their success.

“there really is no excuse not to head down and show your colours for the emphatic opener of the 2019 series”

Alongside these will be dodgeball, horseball, athletics and golf, all of which will be closely contested and fierce matches.

Doors open at 11am with the women’s events commencing at 2pm and the men’s at 4pm. It’s free entry, so there really is no excuse not to head down and show your colours for the emphatic opener of the 2019 series. Free buses will also be running on a first come, first served basis. They will be departing from East Drive at 2pm and Savoy Cinema at 2:15pm.

Super Wednesday will be a great day to be involved in the first event in the all important Varsity series and hopefully the first step to us retaining the bragging rights. Follow @ImpactSport on Twitter for live updates and results on all Varsity events.
