Known on YouTube for his weird yet wonderful style, vivid imagery, and eloquent, engaging storytelling, PJ Liguori (channel name: kickthepj) once again brings a host of odd characters to life in his newest short ‘Oscar’s Hotel’.
The short follows Olivier, nephew of aforementioned Oscar, and the mystical beings staying at the hotel. When threatened by a dangerous intruder, it’s up to Oliver to attempt to assemble a team and defeat the monster, saving the day.
The characters are as entertaining as they are strange and the set design is gorgeous. It’s obvious the effort that went into creating the various backgrounds and when considering the minimal crew that created this short, the finished product is even more amazing. The story is simple, leaving the complexities to the design work but in true kickthepj style, things that seem odd make perfect sense in the universe created. The only advice is to go in with an open mind and prepare for the unexpected.
