Star Wars: Battlefront has been one of the most anticipated games of this year’s E3 Expo.
Even with this hype, various trailers and gameplay showings thankfully seem to live up to these high expectations. It is being developed by DICE, the people behind multiplayer FPS juggernaut Battlefield, so naturally the idea of that large-scale online warfare being couched in the Star Wars universe drove fans wild.
An extended gameplay demo has now been released in which players take part in the battle for Hoth. In The Empire Strikes Back this was a pivotal and exhilarating action sequence near the start of the film and all of the elements which made that scene so great are in place in the game.
Aside from looking outstanding graphically, players can traverse the impressively large map in a multitude of authentic vehicles. The use of snow-speeders, X-wings, Tie fighters and more will doubtlessly send fans of the original film series into delirium.
The weapons, obviously here being laser blasters rather than AK47s, seem to work smoothly and transitions between different types of combat appear seamless. Booming out in the background is the original soundtrack from the films, a unnecessary but nevertheless highly valued touch.
Star Wars: Battlefront is out in the UK on November 20, 2015 for PC, Xbox One and PS4.
